Rachael Rises In New World Rankings

Whilst Australia's Sarah Fitz-Gerald comfortably retains her No1 position in the new October Women's World Squash Rankings, announced today (30 September) by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA), her compatriot Rachael Grinham rises two places to equal her career-best world No7 place.

Grinham, 25, from Toowoomba in Queensland, has found a new vein of form since moving to Cairo in Egypt. A surprise women's singles bronze medallist in the Commonwealth Games in July - who then went on to claim bronze in the women's doubles - Grinham grabbed the Singapore Open title in August after victories over two higher-ranked players.

Four weeks later in Hong Kong, Rachael again upset two higher-seeded players to secure the Credit Suisse Privilege Open title, beating England's world No4 Natalie Pohrer in the final to claim the tenth WISPA title of her career in only 14 final appearances.

In the first world rankings published since last week's announcement of New Zealander Leilani Rorani's retirement, Carol Owens, Cassie Jackman, Natalie Pohrer, Linda Charman and Vanessa Atkinson hold onto positions two to six, respectively.

In the lower half of the top twenty list, Egypt's 17-year-old Omneya Abdel Kawy rises two places to a career-high No 16 following a semi-final berth in the Credit Suisse Privilege Open, and England's Jenny Tranfield returns to the top twenty at 19.
