Fitz-Gerald Celebrates Tenth Successive Month As World No1

Twenty four hours after claiming a historic 58th WISPA World Tour title in Adelaide, Australia's Sarah Fitz-Gerald celebrates her 10th successive month as world No1 in the new July Women's World Squash Rankings, announced today (1st July) by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA).

Fitz-Gerald, the British Open champion who won her third Australian Open title on Sunday, maintains her lead in the rankings ahead of former compatriot Carol Owens, now representing New Zealand, at No2 and England's Cassie Jackman, who is reverting to her maiden name from now on, at No3.

The determined six-times Dutch champion Vanessa Atkinson records her career-best ranking in the new list, rising two places to No7.

England's Tania Bailey has two reasons to celebrate this month: The 22-year-old from Lincolnshire who reached the final of the British Open in April returns to the top ten, at 10, for the first time this year after fighting back from a knee injury. The former world junior champion also moves to the top of the WISPA Under-23 World Rankings, also published today.

While Malaysia's double world junior champion Nicol David returns to her career-equalling 16th place this month, her junior rival Omneya Abdel Kawy, the 16-year-old from Egypt, registers a career-best No18 in the new list.
