Owens Back On Top

New Zealand's Carol Owens has reclaimed her world No1 ranking in the new July Women's World Squash Rankings, announced today (01 July) by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA).

The 32-year-old from Auckland lost her pole position last month to USA's Natalie Pohrer having fallen below the minimum activity level for ranking calculations. However, Owens claimed two further WISPA World Tour titles in June - lifting the Heliopolis Open and Hurghada International to extend her unbeaten record since last November - while Pohrer, who slips to No2, was suffering with a flu virus.

In an otherwise relatively unchanged list, Australia's Rachael Grinham, runner-up to Owens in both Egyptian events, retains her third place.

With England's Linda Charman at four and seven-times Dutch champion Vanessa Atkinson maintaining her career-high world No5 ranking, the WISPA list boasts a top five from five different countries, as well as representation from 11 nations in the top 20.

Semi-final berths in both the Heliopolis Open and Hurghada International have helped England's former world champion Cassie Jackman overtake compatriots Jenny Tranfield and Fiona Geaves to return to the top ten at No9.

Lower in the top 20, Ireland's Madeline Perry rises to a career-best world No18.
